The Nordic Trade Union Movement stands with the people of Greenland

In November 2024, the people of Greenland woke up to the disturbing news that the President of the
United States, Donald Trump, had once again raised the idea of seizing control of their land. This was
not the first time such a threat was issued by the President or his cabinet.

The Nordic Trade Union Movement stands in firm solidarity with our member organization, the
National Confederation of Trade Unions of Greenland (SIK), and with the people of Greenland.
Greenland is a natural and important part of the Nordic community. We affirm their unassailable right
to self-determination and their right to feel safe and secure in their own country - a right that belongs
to all people.

No nation has a right to threaten the safety of Greenland. Any attempt to coerce, pressure, or
undermine the will of the Greenlandic people is unacceptable.

The people of Greenland have made their position clear. The protests against foreign interference
earlier this year were the largest in Greenland’s history. As Jess G. Berthelsen, President of SIK, stated:

"Greenland has shown the world that integrity still means something. Greenland has said no—not
because we are against anyone, but because we stand for something. We stand for respect. For dignity.
For integrity. In a time when superpowers operate through threats and economic pressure, Greenland
reminds the world that there are countries that cannot be bought."

In solidarity,

The Council of Nordic Trade Unions,
Jarkko Eloranta, President of NFS and SAK, Finland
Tomas Kepler, Vice President of NFS and President of Akademikerne, Denmark
Morten Skov Christiansen, President FH, Denmark
